Netanyahu apologizes to Qatari PM over Doha strike

During the call, Prime Minister Netanyahu expressed regret over the loss of life, apologized, and promised that such an operation would not be repeated.

A dramatic trilateral call took place earlier today between President Donald Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed Al-Thani.

The conversation, brokered by the White House, came amid renewed efforts to advance hostage release talks and ease tensions in the region.

President Trump played a central role in convening the call and pushing for progress.

A central topic was the recent Israeli airstrike in Doha targeting senior Hamas leadership.

While the strike did not eliminate its intended targets, Israel maintained it was a precision operation based on credible intelligence.

Hamas leadership has long enjoyed asylum in Qatar, living in luxury while Gazans continue to suffer.

The strike, however, killed a Qatari security officer and was perceived by Doha as a violation of its sovereignty, leading to demands for an apology.

According to the White House, Netanyahu expressed his deep regret that the Israeli attack in Doha inadvertently killed a Qatari soldier.

He further acknowledged that in attempting to harm Hamas leaders during hostage negotiations, Israel had violated Qatar’s sovereignty, and confirmed Israel would not carry out such an attack again.

Prime Minister Al-Thani welcomed Netanyahu’s assurances and stressed Qatar’s willingness to continue making significant contributions to regional security and stability. Netanyahu reiterated his commitment to that cooperation.
