Netanyahu honors fallen IDF officer, vows to disarm Hamas and demilitarize Gaza

At a Torah scroll dedication in memory of Maj. (res.) Dr. Moshe Yedidya Leiter, a Shaldag platoon commander and son of Israel’s ambassador in Washington, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu tied the family’s sacrifice directly to Israel’s ongoing war against Hamas.

Netanyahu said Israel had just endured yet another Palestinian terror attack and stressed that the government is determined to “finish the war on all fronts,” explicitly including stripping Hamas of its weapons and ensuring Gaza is fully demilitarized so it can no longer pose a major threat.

He framed this as part of a broader campaign against Iran’s terror axis “in 360 degrees.”

Addressing the Leiter family, Netanyahu recalled visiting them during shiva and described Moshe as a model Israeli and Jew who “fought for our existence and gave his life for the eternity of Israel,” noting his leadership in the IDF’s “Kodkod” program to draw more Israelis into this mission.

He praised Ambassador Yehiel Leiter for now carrying Israel’s case “in the most important arena among the nations,” defending Israel’s moral legitimacy abroad.

Netanyahu said Israel’s greatest victory is “the victory of spirit,” embodied in Moshe Leiter’s courage and faith, which he called an example for the people of Israel and many of Israel’s friends worldwide.

He blessed the family and all those involved in the “holy work” of commemorating Moshe’s legacy through the new Torah scroll, linking that spiritual act to Israel’s resolve to defeat Hamas and secure its future.
