Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is slated to fly to Washington, D.C., next week for a meeting with President Donald Trump, following the end of the war between Israel and Iran and amid an attempt by Trump to secure a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of the remaining hostages.
Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer departed Monday for the U.S. for high-level meetings in Washington.
Dermer is expected to meet Tuesday with Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, along with White House special envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff.
An Israeli official said Netanyahu’s trip to Washington has been finalized for next week. Two Trump administration officials confirmed the plans to The Associated Press.
Netanyahu is expected to depart for Washington as early as Sunday, arriving in the U.S. on July 7. This will be his third visit to Washington since Trump returned to office in January.
An American official who spoke with The Times of Israel said that the talks between the two leaders will focus on Iran, the war in Gaza and Trump’s push to reach a permanent end to the war alongside the release of the remaining 50 hostages, as well as talks between Israel and Syria.
News of Netanyahu’s trip comes amid reports that the Pentagon has approved more than half a billion dollars in new arms sales to Israel.
Over the weekend, Trump reiterated his support for Netanyahu, dubbing the Israeli leader a war hero and criticizing the premier’s ongoing corruption trial, claiming it was interfering with peace talks.
