Iranian officials are dismissing Washington’s latest attempt at a deal, warning the framework being reported publicly doesn’t reflect the reality of what’s being demanded.

Iran has examined a U.S. proposal aimed at ending the conflict but views its terms as overly demanding, according to Iran’s Press TV, which cited an official on Wednesday.
The report added that Tehran intends to conclude the war only on its own timeline and under conditions it deems acceptable.
An Iranian official speaking to Reuters confirmed that Tehran’s reaction to the proposal has so far been unfavorable, noting that the plan is still under internal review.
The same official said Iran has already passed along an initial response through Pakistan to be relayed to Washington.
Axios reported that a U.S. official said the Trump administration has not yet received any formal communication from Iran rejecting the proposal outright.
In remarks to Al Jazeera, a senior Iranian diplomatic source sharply criticized the plan, calling it “extremely maximalist and unreasonable.”
“It is not beautiful even on paper,” the source said, adding that what has been portrayed in the media does not accurately reflect what is written in the proposal.
Details have emerged about the American framework. According to a New York Times report citing officials briefed on the matter, Washington has put forward a 15-point plan designed to bring the war to an end.
The proposal, reportedly delivered via Pakistan, addresses Iran’s ballistic missile and nuclear programs, along with strategic concerns surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.
It is said to include sweeping demands: dismantling Iran’s existing nuclear infrastructure, a firm commitment to abandon any pursuit of nuclear weapons, and the removal of already enriched uranium from Iranian territory.
Egypt’s Foreign Ministry urged continued diplomatic engagement, calling on all parties to pursue a negotiated resolution.
While declining to provide specifics about the U.S. proposal, officials noted that Egypt is coordinating with Pakistan and Turkey in efforts to defuse the crisis.
Rhetoric from Iranian-linked sources has intensified. An analyst appearing on Iranian state television warned that Tehran could move against Gulf states if the U.S. escalates.
“Iran’s forces are fully prepared,” said Morteza Simiyari on Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting. “If the Americans make any mistake in the region, we will seize the coastlines of Bahrain and the UAE.”
He added that such an operation has already been rehearsed and that seizing those areas “is on the agenda of our armed forces.”
Despite the threat, analysts note that Iran would face major operational challenges in attempting such a move, particularly given limited air cover and naval capabilities.
An Iranian military source cited by the IRGC-affiliated Tasnim outlet suggested the conflict could expand geographically.
According to opposition outlet Iran International, the source said a new front could be opened in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait if the United States attempts to force open the Strait of Hormuz.
The Bab el-Mandeb has already proven volatile. Iranian-backed Houthi forces in Yemen previously targeted international shipping in the Red Sea following Hamas’s October 7, 2023, attack on Israel, before pausing those operations after a Gaza ceasefire took effect in October 2025.
