Senior Hamas leader admits that growing international support for unilateral Palestinian statehood is a direct result of the invasion of Israel and subsequent massacres.

Hamas’ surprise attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, which led to the massacre of some 1,200 Israelis, has resulted in the rising tide of international support for recognition of unilateral Palestinian statehood, a senior spokesman for the terror group has claimed.
Over the weekend, Ghazi Hamad, a senior Hamas leader living in exile, spoke with Al Jazeera about the global effort to garner support for unilateral Palestinian statehood during next month’s session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Hamad noted that support for unilateral Palestinian statehood, once eschewed by most Western countries, is suddenly being openly embraced by major European and North American powers, including Britain, France, and Canada.
“Why are all the countries recognizing a Palestinian state today? Before October 7, did any country dare recognize a Palestinian state?” Hamad said.
“The fruits of October 7th are what caused the entire world to open its eyes to the Palestinian issue — and they are moving toward it with force. That is, that the Palestinian people are a people who deserve a country.”
Calling the massacres of Israelis on October 7 “great historical achievements,” Hamad argued that the invasion “brought back the Palestinian issue.”
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar (New Hope) responded to Hamad’s comments by condemning the governments of Britain, France, and Canada, after they announced plans to recognize unilateral Palestinian statehood at the United Nations next month.
“If this [is] who applauds you — what does it say about you?”
The Israeli Foreign Ministry posted a clip from Hamad’s interview with Al Jazeera, commenting: “Don’t let terror collect its reward.”
