Two Israeli men were killed in a combination shooting and stabbing attack on the Jordanian border Thursday afternoon.

The attack occurred at the Allenby Crossing separating Israel from Jordan at approximately 2:35 p.m., when a Jordanian soldier who crossed the border into Israel opened fire on Israeli officials stationed at the checkpoint.

At one point during the attack, the Jordanian soldier’s firearm jammed, and he drew a knife and began stabbing his two victims.

While the terrorist was stabbing his victims, an Israeli security guard arrived on the scene and opened fire, killing the terrorist.

A large number of Israeli security personnel have been deployed to the area, and the border crossing has been closed to traffic.

According to reports in Israeli media outlets, the attack was carried out at a cargo inspection site at the border crossing. The Jordanian soldier was reportedly driving a truck carrying humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip at the time of the attack and was carrying an Israeli entry permit.

Arab media outlets have reported that the driver was a former Jordanian soldier, not an active serviceman.

Emergency first responders from Magen David Adom were dispatched to the scene to treat the two victims, who were initially listed in critical condition.

After attempts to resuscitate the two victims, however, paramedics were forced to declare both dead.

The victims include a man roughly 60 years of age and a man roughly 20 years of age.

“We arrived at the scene with large forces and joined the security forces at the crossing,” said MDA paramedics Bosmat Lubiner and Amit Weiss.

“They led us to two men, who were unconscious with gunshot wounds to their torsos, who were receiving first-aid treatment. We continued the medical care, including resuscitation efforts, but in the end, unfortunately we were forced to pronounce them dead. The terrorist was neutralized by security personnel.”
