As the Palestinian Authority (PA) Chairman traveled to Paris to rally opposition against Israel’s passing of a bill that prevents the demolition of Jewish homes, PA ministers called for the international community to act against Israel.

Palestinian Authority (PA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas said on Tuesday that the PA will seek grievances from international courts in response to Israel’s passing of legislation, known as the “Regulation Law,” on Monday evening.

“This legislation in contrary to international law,” Abbas said shortly after arriving in Paris on Tuesday. “We will continue our work with the international courts to protect our existence and our survival on Palestinian land.”

The bill prevents the demolition of communities in Judea and Samaria that are found ex-post facto by Israel’s High Court to have been built on private land. Instead, the land will be expropriated and the owners will be compensated.

Abbas traveled to France in an effort to rally officials in the country against Israel’s adoption of the Regulation Law. The PA chairman is expected to not only meet with French President Francois Hollande on the matter but also with the candidates in France’s upcoming election. He will also reportedly address the French Parliament and Senate.

France’s relevance with regards to the PA traces to its recent efforts in establishing a PA state, most notably when it sponsored an international conference in Paris that called for Israeli concessions to make way for the creation of such a state.

Meanwhile, other senior PA officials asked for the international community to act against Israel.

“The international community has the responsibility to settle accounts with the crimes of the occupation government and of its settlements,” PA Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki told Voice of Palestine radio station.

The PA’s Tourism Minister Rula Ma’ayah echoed al-Maliki’s remarks.

“Building settlements is a crime, building settlements is against all international laws,” claimed Ma’ayah. “I think it is time now for the international community to act concretely to stop the Israelis from committing these crimes.”
