On Sunday, a Palestinian terrorist hurled an improvised explosive on a highway in Samaria near Shechem (Nablus).
The suspect was apparently targeting a young Israeli waiting for a ride near an IDF post, according to a report by Israel’s Channel 10 news, but failed to injure any bystanders or cause any damage to the post.
The attempted terror attack occurred at a junction on Route 60, a well-traveled thoroughfare in Samaria which had to be closed in both directions while a police sapper disarmed the explosive device.
Israeli security forces conducted a search in the Shechem area for the suspect, combing vehicles entering and exiting the town’s vicinity.
Within hours, the IDF had detained the suspect, recovering another two explosive devices in his vehicle, reported the military.
The attempted pipe-bombing follows similar arrests of other Palestinians carrying weapons or preparing attacks.
On Saturday, a Palestinian male was apprehended near the Jewish community of Beit El in Samaria, with a knife and a meat cleaver in his possession. After he was arrested for acting suspiciously and the weapons were identified, he confessed to Israeli police that he had planned to launch a stabbing attack.
In a similar incident on Saturday, police in the Shuafat neighborhood of Jerusalem arrested a Palestinian who attempted to pass a knife through a metal detector at a check point.
