Palestinians attack Israelis during Yom Kippur

Palestinians rioted and attacked Israeli forces as well as homes, throwing rocks and firebombs, during the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur.

The Palestinians continued to riot and commit acts of violence throughout the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur on Tuesday night and Wednesday, as Israeli security forces remained on high alert in Jerusalem following Sunday’s deadly shooting attack.

Palestinians rioted in several neighborhoods in the capital less than an hour after Judaism’s holiest day began. Palestinians tried to block roads and threw rocks and firebombs at Israeli forces and at Israeli homes.

One of the rioters was shot dead by Israeli police after throwing fire bombs at them. Police say he endangered their life and so they acted in self-defense.

Palestinian media identified him as Ali Atef Ebrahim Shoyoukhi, 20, who was released from prison earlier this year after serving a 15-month sentence.

No other serious injuries were reported.

Police spokesperson Micky Rosenfeld said forces dispersed the remaining rioters using non-lethal force.

Also on Tuesday night, Palestinians fired at IDF soldiers by a security checkpoint near the Palestinian village of Ni’lin. The soldiers returned fire and the terrorists fled.

In another incident, a soldier was lightly wounded Wednesday morning in his eye from a rock thrown by a Palestinian near Beit El in Samaria.

In related news, IDF forces conducted several counter-terrorism operations throughout Judea and Samaria and arrested nine suspects in connection with terrorism.

Security forces arrested a Hamas operative in Samaria who was carrying over 100,000 NIS ($25,000) meant for funding terrorism. Pursuant to accurate intelligence, the suspect was arrested en route after conducting a terror related transaction in Shechem (Nablus).
