Pre-dawn ambush: Terrorist tries to stab border guard at western Galilee police station

A Border Police officer stationed at the Western Galilee police station in Kfar Yasif successfully neutralized a knife-wielding assailant who attempted to stab him during a pre-dawn attack on Friday morning.

The incident, which unfolded around 5:30 a.m., ended without casualties thanks to the guard’s quick reflexes and tactical training.

According to Israel Police spokesperson statements, the suspect, identified as a 23-year-old resident of the nearby Arab-Israeli village of Jadeidi-Makr, arrived at the station entrance in his personal vehicle.

Witnesses reported that he abruptly exited the car, brandished a knife, and sprinted toward the Border Police officer securing the checkpoint with clear intent to carry out a stabbing attack.

Despite the element of surprise and the early hour, the officer demonstrated exceptional composure under pressure.

He immediately engaged the attacker, disarmed him, and physically subdued him before the suspect could inflict harm.

A security source familiar with the incident told Channel 12 News:

“He jumped out of the car, ran at him like a madman with the knife raised in the air, and tried to stab him. The officer took the knife away and arrested him.”

The suspect was immediately taken into custody and transferred to the police station for interrogation. Investigators are now working to determine whether the attack was ideologically motivated or stemmed from personal grievances.

Given the nature of the assault and the suspect’s deliberate targeting of a uniformed security officer, authorities are treating the incident as a potential terror attack.

The Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) has been briefed on the case and is coordinating with police investigators to assess whether the suspect had connections to extremist networks or was acting as a lone wolf.

“The Shin Bet is updated on the details of the unusual incident,” a security official confirmed.

Pattern of Lone-Wolf Attacks

This attempted stabbing follows a troubling pattern of lone-wolf attacks targeting Israeli security forces in recent months.

Just days ago, Border Police units neutralized a terrorist in Qalandiya after he opened fire on officers during an operational activity.

In another recent case, undercover units arrested a suspect in Jerusalem who was allegedly planning a mass-casualty attack during Jerusalem Day celebrations.

Security analysts note that these incidents reflect a persistent threat environment in which individual attackers, often with minimal or no organizational backing, attempt to carry out spontaneous assaults against Israeli targets.

The Western Galilee region, while generally quieter than Judea and Samaria, has seen sporadic security incidents involving Arab-Israeli citizens radicalized through online propaganda or personal grievances.

Police officials emphasized that the officer’s training and situational awareness were critical in preventing what could have been a deadly attack.

Border Police units undergo rigorous close-quarters combat drills specifically designed to counter knife assaults, which remain one of the most common methods used in terror attacks against Israeli security personnel.

The suspect is expected to appear before a magistrate’s court in the coming days, where prosecutors will request an extension of his detention pending the completion of the investigation.

Authorities have not yet disclosed whether any additional suspects are being sought in connection with the incident.
