Report: Iran to provide hundreds of millions of dollars to Hamas

The move comes a day after the US announced sanctions against Iran and its terror proxies.

The Iranian regime is set to transfer hundreds of millions of dollars from the state treasury to Hamas terrorists, according to a report from “Iran International,” a Persian language news television channel headquartered in London. The report, which did not specify an exact amount, claims that the funds are part of a budget already determined in the early days of the war to support the terror group in its war against Israel.

The move comes a day after the United States announced a range of sanctions against individuals and entities associated with the Gaza-based terror organization, as well as Iran and other terror groups it supports.

The funds, according to Iran International, will be immediately transferred to the fighters in Gaza, including those associated with the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement in the Strip. This is part of the so-called “Al-Quds Force” budget, in reference to the Arabic term for Jerusalem.

Iranian military and financial support for Hamas has a long history. According to US and Israeli estimates, Iran sends Hamas around $100 million per year.

Iran is also a major sponsor of Hezbollah in Lebanon, the group that has been firing rockets nearly daily since the war started on October 7. Additionally, Iran funds the Houthi group in Yemen, the terror organization that has been attacking Israel-affiliated ships in the Red Sea, a major shipping route.

In its statement on Monday announcing the sanctions on Hamas, Iran, and other groups, the US said the “Treasury, in close coordination with our allies and partners, will continue to leverage our authorities to target Hamas, its financiers, and its international financial infrastructure.”
