Special counsel Robert Mueller and his team are investigating White House senior adviser Jared Kushner’s contacts with foreign leaders, and specifically those with Israeli leaders, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.
The Journal reported Tuesday that Mueller’s team is probing Kushner’s involvement in an attempt to thwart a United Nations (UN) resolution passed in December 2016 that condemned Israel for its presence in Judea and Samaria.
Trump, who was president-elect at the time, called for the US to veto the resolution supported by then President Barack Obama, saying the resolution was “extremely unfair to all Israelis.”
The UN Security Council (UNSC) passed the resolution due to a US’ abstention.
According to the Journal‘s report, Israeli officials reached out to several members of Trump’s transition team, including Kushner,
Mueller’s investigation is also looking into Kushner’s role in setting up meetings and communications with foreign leaders during Trump’s transition, according to the Journal.
Mueller was appointed as a special counsel in May to lead a federal investigation into allegations that Trump’s campaign collaborated with Russia to sway the 2016 election that put him in the White House.
Kushner’s name has repeatedly surfaced throughout the probe due to his presence at meetings last year with Russian officials and representatives.
The Washington Post reported earlier this year that Mueller was looking into the Kushner’s business dealings and finances.
Kushner has denied any wrongdoing or improper communications with Russia during the 2016 election.
