Sirens sounded in Tel Aviv after 2 rockets fired from Gaza

Residents of Tel Aviv and the towns that surround it heard the sound of rocket alert sirens on Thursday evening after two missiles were launched from Gaza.

According to IDF reports, two rockets were launched on Thursday evening from Gaza, a coastal enclave to Israel’s south ruled by the Hamas terror group.

One of the rockets was reportedly intercepted by Israel’s Iron Dome anti-missile system, while the other fell in an open field.

No injuries were reported from either projectile.

Residents of the Tel Aviv area reported hearing two explosions with sirens heard throughout the Dan region.

Alarms were also reportedly triggered in Holon and other cities in central Israel.

While Israel holds Hamas responsible for all rocket attacks emanating from the Gaza Strip, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad terror group reportedly took credit for the strike on Thursday evening, according to sources in the Strip cited by Ynet.

The rocket attack arrives several months after Israel and Hamas teetered on the brink of war in November, when  the terror group launched hundreds of rockets at southern Israel. Egypt eventually brokered a tenuous ceasefire.

The ceasefire resulted in the resignation of then Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman, who deemed the truce surrendering to terrorism.

In February, a rocket attack from Gaza also targeted Israel.
