Roger Waters forces Pink Floyd cover band to cancel Israel tour

Former Pink Floyd lead singer Roger Waters forced a cover band to cancel its shows in Israel.

Roger Waters, former lead singer of rock band Pink Floyd, and in more recent years infamous in pro-Israel circles for his support of the Boycott, Divestment & Sanctions movement, has pressured a Pink Floyd cover band to cancel its shows in Israel.

Pink Floyd Experience, a tribute band to the British rock group, canceled three shows in Israel after Roger Waters discovered they were planning to appear there.

“To sing my songs in front of segregated audiences in Israel, and contribute to the cultural whitewashing of the racist and apartheid government of that country, would be an act of unconscionable malice and disrespect,” Waters posted online.

“The people you intend to entertain are executing their neighbor’s children, shooting them down in cold blood every day. In the name of everything human, PLEASE hear my plea and cancel today,” he wrote.

The tribute band canceled its shows a few hours after Waters’s post. The shows had been scheduled for early next month in Beersheba, Tel Aviv and Haifa.

The Jerusalem Post reports that a wave of online attacks followed leading the cover band to delete its Facebook page entirely by Sunday morning.

Roger Waters has been an active member of the BDS movement and during his concerts has featured imagery that some have considered anti-Semitic, such as a large inflatable pig emblazoned with a Star of David.

Waters has also urged other artists to boycott Israel and has compared Israel to apartheid South Africa.

Pink Floyd Experience has played before in Israel, last visiting in January 2017.
