Iran has restored access to most of the underground missile facilities targeted during the war by Israeli and US airstrikes, according to satellite imagery reviewed by CNN, raising questions about the long-term effectiveness of efforts to disable Tehran’s missile infrastructure.

Satellite images analyzed by experts show Iran has reopened 50 of 69 tunnel entrances at 18 underground missile sites that were struck during the campaign. The network said the work was carried out using basic equipment, including bulldozers and dump trucks.

The imagery suggests that despite extensive bombing, Iran has been able to regain access to a significant portion of its subterranean missile network.

Experts cited by CNN said the findings demonstrate the difficulty of neutralizing Iran’s underground missile facilities solely by targeting tunnel entrances.

Iranian authorities moved quickly to clear debris and restore entry points to the sites. The facilities are part of a broader network of heavily fortified underground installations used to store and operate missile systems.

US intelligence sources cited in the report said Iran has “exceeded all timelines” for reconstitution following the strikes. Experts referenced in the analysis estimated that approximately 1,000 missiles remain stored deep underground.

CNN reported that the restoration effort highlights the challenges facing military campaigns aimed at permanently disabling Iran’s so-called missile cities.

While attacks may disrupt fixed infrastructure and production capabilities, experts said Iran retains the ability to access hidden stockpiles and conduct missile launches from underground facilities.

The analysis was based on satellite imagery examined after the strikes and focused on 18 missile sites where tunnel entrances had been targeted.

Of the 69 entrances identified at those locations, 50 were found to have been cleared and reopened.
