A Shin Bet (Israel’s Security Agency) agent was killed Tuesday night while operating in the Gaza Strip area, a spokesman said in a statement.

He was named as Amir Meimony, 29, from Moshav Zohar in the south.

The Shin Bet gave no information on the circumstances of his death, but Israel’s IDF Radio reported that he was killed in a training accident, in an incident of friendly fire during an exercise.

The Shin Bet is Israel’s internal security service and primary counter-terror agency, similar to the British MI5 or the American FBI.
