Shin Bet: Iranian plot targeting Ben-Gvir’s daughter failed

The Iranian operative, posing as the manager of a popular Israeli musician, offered Hallel Ben-Gvir a fake concert invite.

Israel’s Shin Bet internal security service revealed that Iranian intelligence recently targeted the daughter of National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, using a phishing scheme disguised as an invitation from the manager of a popular Israeli musician.

According to a report in Israel Hayom, an Iranian operative pretended to be Ohad Dabkash, the manager of Hebrew-language rapper The Shadow, known for his outspoken right-wing views. The agent contacted Ben-Gvir’s teenage daughter, Hallel, via the WhatsApp messaging platform.

It remains unclear how the operative obtained her personal cell phone number.

Introducing himself as the rapper’s manager, the Iranian agent told Hallel that he knew she was a fan of The Shadow and invited her to a special performance where she could meet the artist and sing with him.

“It will be an unforgettable experience,” the operative promised.

Hallel expressed interest in attending and asked if she could bring a friend, to which the agent agreed. He then sent her a link to a Google Meet chat. She tried multiple times to join but was unable to access it.

After several failed attempts, Hallel gave up. Days later, Shin Bet informed the family that the exchange had been with an Iranian agent attempting to gain surveillance access to the minister’s household and their activities.

The real Ohad Dabkash provided a bemused response to Israel Hayom regarding the incident, saying he was “happy the Iranians are interested in me.”

Dabkash joked that the impersonation was proof that “our music has reached Iran, and we are doing a great job!” He concluded with the words, “Am Yisrael Chai” — the people of Israel live.

The Shin Bet has foiled several assassination plots targeting Ben-Gvir in recent years, but this appears to be the first time that the minister’s daughter has been a potential target.
