The leader of a Gaza militia which has challenged Hamas rule excoriated the terror group over its abduction and murder of Israeli civilians, calling Hamas terrorists “subhuman.”
On Monday, the Hebrew newspaper Yedioth Aharanoth published an interview with Yasser Abu Shabab in which Abu Shabab denounced Hamas and pushed back on criticism from the terror group.
Abu Shabab, a member of the al-Tarabin tribe, the largest Bedouin tribe in the, western Negev, Gaza Strip, and Sinai Peninsula, is the head of an armed crime syndicate, called the Abu Shabab group, which also operates as a militia force, under the name the Popular Forces.
Speaking with the Israeli national broadcaster’s Arabic radio channel, Makan, a day earlier, Abu Shabab threatened to conduct a “civil war” against Hamas, adding that his group would continue fighting against Hamas even if Israel entered into a ceasefire with the terror group.
Shortly afterwards, the Hamas-led alliance of Gaza terror groups known collectively as the Palestinian Joint Operations Room issued a statement accusing Abu Shabab of being a “paid traitor” to the Palestinian cause.
In his interview with Yedioth Aharanoth, Abu Shabab responded to Hamas’ accusations.
“Criminal, thief, ISIS member — all to scare people away from me. But it hasn’t worked.”
Abu Shabab later condemned Hamas for the abduction and murder of Shira Bibas and her two young sons, adding that Hamas’ downfall “is near.”
“Can someone who kidnaps and murders children like the Bibas family really have the legitimacy to define or judge others? These are despicable subhumans whose end is near.”
“Hamas planned, implemented, and carried out the horrors of October 7th with no regard for the miserable people living in Gaza,”
“We lost everything — our homes, property, jobs, and money, while they live in tunnels lacking nothing. Is there a greater injustice?”
Abu Shabab called for the return of the remaining 50 Israeli hostages, while vowing to continue the fight against Hamas.
“We want the Israeli hostages to return home. Every innocent person, from all sides, should return to their home, children, and family. The people of Gaza have already paid an unbearable price for a deranged terrorist organization. We will not leave the Strip and will continue to fight Hamas.”
