Sydney terrorists had ISIS flag in their car

ISIS flag found in vehicle used by Sydney terrorists amid revelations one of the two terrorists was probed for ties to a local cell affiliated with the Islamist terror group years ago.

The Pakistani-Australian terrorists responsible for Sunday’s deadly mass shooting attack on a Chanukah celebration in Sydney, Australia, had two ISIS flags in their vehicle, Australian media reported.

Authorities probing the attack, which left 15 dead and dozens wounded, located the vehicle used by Naveed Akram, 24, and his father, Sajid Akram, 50, to drive to Bondi Beach, where they carried out their attack.

Inside the car, police found two ISIS flags, raising suspicions the massacre may have been linked to the Islamic terror group.

Australia’s ABC reported overnight that Australia’s domestic intelligence agency, the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO), had probed Naveed six years ago amid suspicions he was involved in an ISIS-affiliated terror cell.

ASIO began investigating Naveed’s possible ties to ISIS in July 2019, following the arrest of Issak al-Mattari, an ISIS terrorists who was plotting an Islamic “revolt” against the Australian government.

On Sunday, ASIO Director-General Mike Burgess acknowledged that Naveed was on the agency’s radar, but emphasized that he had not been flagged as an “immediate threat.”

Sajid, a fruit shop owner, was fatally wounded by police after the attack, while his son, an unemployed construction worker, remains in critical condition.

A licensed gun owner, Sajid possessed six registered firearms, all of which were used during the massacre.

The two terrorists also planned to use bombs in their attack, authorities said, after improvised explosive devices were found in their vehicle.

Police raided the Akram family’s home, located in Bonnyrigg, as well as a rental property the two men had been using.
