A Palestinian terrorist who attacked IDF soldiers while they were operating in Jericho on Thursday was shot dead.
IDF troops were operating in the city of Jericho, under Palestinian control, to arrest a terrorism suspect when confronted by a violent Palestinian mob. At some point, the terrorist, armed with a metal pole, attacked the soldiers, who responded by shooting him at close range.
A search of his body revealed he was carrying a knife as well.
The soldiers evacuated the terrorist for medical treatment, but he died of his wounds shortly after.
Palestinian sources identified the assailant as Yasin Omar Saradeeh, 33. His family claims he was severely beaten after being detained, adding that he was in a good health before the incident.
Issa Qaraqe, head of the Palestinian Authority’s (PA) Detainees Commission, told Voice of Palestine that Saradeeh died from severe beating to the head, describing the incident as “a crime, execution and premeditated murder at the hands of occupation forces, which reflect the level of brutality and terrorism of the soldiers.”
However, CCTV footage of the incident clearly shows Saradeeh charging towards the soldiers and confronting them at close range. He immediately falls to the ground, indicating he was shot, corroborating the IDF’s account of the event.
The IDF said it was investigating the incident.
