‘This is a new Middle East,’ Netanyahu declares, hinting at new peace deals

After the IDF confirmed that Iran’s de facto leader and the head of the Basij militia were both killed in airstrikes, Netanyahu said that Israel and its allies are building a “new Middle East” and hinted at new alliances.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared Tuesday that Israel and its allies are “creating a new Middle East” after the IDF confirmed that several top Iranian officials were killed in airstrikes overnight.

The Israeli military announced that Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council and the country’s de facto leader since the killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was among those killed.

Brig. Gen. Gholamreza Soleimani, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ paramilitary Basij force, was also killed in an overnight strike on Tehran, the IDF said.

Addressing a cabinet meeting shortly after the killings were confirmed, Netanyahu said that Israel has decimated the IRGC’s leadership.

“The rotations in the Revolutionary Guards are very short,” Netanyahu said.

The anti-regime outlet Iran International reported on Tuesday that approximately 300 Basij officers were killed in airstrikes overnight.

Netanyahu pushed back on criticism from some left-leaning media outlets, touting the achievements of the joint US-Israeli air campaign and adding that the war will dramatically change the balance of power in the Middle East.

“Even those who listen to the channels of gloom and pessimism understand that we are making a historic change here,” Netanyahu said.

“We are creating a new Middle East here—but not the Middle East through Shimon Peres’ rose-colored glasses. Rather, a truly new order—built from strength.”

The prime minister hinted at a possible expansion of the Abraham Accords after the war with Iran, suggesting that the conflict has opened the door to “new alliances.”

“Relationships are forming with some countries that until recently seemed imaginary. New alliances.”
