Trump accuses Iran of violating truce but predicts ‘great deal’

President Trump blasts Iran’s “numerous” violations of ceasefire agreement amid reports US has seized a second Iranian vessel just hours before the truce is slated to expire.

President Donald Trump on Tuesday accused Iran of repeatedly violating the two-week ceasefire deal reached on April 8, making the claim just hours before the truce is set to expire.

“Iran has Violated the Cease Fire numerous times,” the president wrote on his Truth Social account.

The post was uploaded some 12 hours before the end of the ceasefire, a day after the president said it was “highly unlikely” that he would extend the truce without a deal worked out with Iran.

Speaking with Bloomberg on Monday, Trump said the US blockade on Iran in the Strait of Hormuz would also remain in place if no agreement is reached.

“I’m not opening it up,” Trump said.

“They want me to open it. The Iranians desperately want it opened. I’m not opening it until a deal is signed.”

After his post Tuesday, Trump told CNBC that he predicts that the talks in Islamabad will be held despite mixed signals from Iran, and ultimately culminate in the signing of a deal.

“We’re going to end up with a great deal. I think they have no choice.”

There have been conflicting reports on Tuesday regarding the prospects for a second round of talks between the US and Iran in Islamabad.

Following reports that Iran has refused to send a delegation for talks with the US, The Associated Press cited two regional officials who said that the United States and Iran have both signaled they plan to send negotiators to Islamabad on Wednesday.

Pakistani mediators reportedly received confirmation that Vice President JD Vance will again be leading the American delegation, with Iran’s parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf representing the Islamic Republic.

Trump’s comments come hours after US forces operating in the Strait of Hormuz seized a second Iranian-linked vessel attempting to breach the naval blockade.

The Pentagon confirmed the seizure, stating that the vessel had already been sanctioned for its ties to the Iranian regime.

“Overnight, U.S. forces conducted a right-of-visit, maritime interdiction and boarding of the stateless sanctioned M/T Tifani without incident in the INDOPACOM area of responsibility,” the Pentagon said.

“As we have made clear, we will pursue global maritime enforcement efforts to disrupt illicit networks and interdict sanctioned vessels providing material support to Iran—anywhere they operate. International waters are not a refuge for sanctioned vessels.”
