Trump calls off Iran strike amid ‘serious negotiations’

“Serious negotiations are now taking place,” Trump wrote, adding that the leaders believe a deal could be reached that would be “very acceptable” to the United States.

President Donald Trump announced Monday that he has ordered a halt to a planned U.S. military strike on Iran, citing urgent appeals from key Middle Eastern leaders and ongoing negotiations aimed at reaching a deal.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he had been asked by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to delay the strike, which had been scheduled for Tuesday.

“Serious negotiations are now taking place,” Trump wrote, adding that the leaders believe a deal could be reached that would be “very acceptable” to the United States and regional countries, and would include “NO NUCLEAR WEAPONS FOR IRAN.”

Trump said he had instructed Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Daniel Caine, and the U.S. military to stand down from the planned attack, while remaining ready to launch a “full, large scale assault” at a moment’s notice if talks fail.

The dramatic pause comes amid intensifying diplomatic activity and growing pressure on Tehran to present a more concrete proposal.

Earlier Monday, Reuters reported that Pakistan had conveyed an updated Iranian proposal to Washington, though details remain limited. Iran’s Tasnim News Agency said the plan focuses on ending the war and includes “confidence-building measures” by the United States, but did not address key U.S. demands regarding uranium enrichment and Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium.

U.S. officials have signaled dissatisfaction with the proposal, describing it as insufficient and lacking the detail needed to produce a breakthrough.

“We have not achieved much progress,” a senior official told Israel’s Channel 12 News, describing the situation as “very serious” and placing the onus squarely on Tehran to respond.

The official warned that without a meaningful shift in Iran’s position, diplomacy could quickly give way to force. “If that does not happen, we will conduct this discussion through bombs,” he said.
