Trump defends Hamas slaughter of Israel-backed Gaza clans, says US gave Hamas a green light

President Trump calls members of anti-Hamas clans who were slaughtered by the terror group “gang members,” defends Hamas’ actions.

President Donald Trump defended the Hamas terror organization this week, explicitly condoning its systematic killing of political rivals in the Gaza Strip, including members of Israeli-backed clans.

On two separate occasions, Trump expressed his support for Hamas’ recent slaughter of members of clans that have challenged its authority in the Gaza Strip, including groups Israel has supported in an effort to weaken Hamas.

Since the beginning of the Gaza ceasefire between Israel and Hamas on October 10th, the Islamist terror group has launched a sweeping campaign in the coastal enclave to purge areas where the IDF has withdrawn of groups that Hamas has deemed “collaborators.”

Dozens of members of rival clans have been killed, many of them executed after being captured.

In a major clash with the Doghmush clan in Gaza City last weekend, at least 20 people were killed by Hamas terrorists, with dozens more arrested.

While under the terms of the Trump administration’s Gaza peace plan Hamas is obligated to disarm and cede control, the president defended Hamas’ killing of its rivals in Gaza.

On Sunday, Trump told reporters on board Air Force One while en route to Israel that the US had given Hamas a green light for a crackdown in Gaza, ostensibly to fight crime.

“They do want to stop the problems, and they’ve been open about it, and we gave them approval for a period of time,” Trump said.

“We are having them watch that there’s not going to be big crime or some of the problems that you have when you have areas like this that have been literally demolished.”

Speaking with reporters in the White House on Tuesday, Trump again defended the killings in Gaza, comparing Hamas’ rivals to Venezuelan crime syndicates.

“They did take out a couple of gangs that were very bad—very, very bad gangs,” Trump said. “And they did take them out. And they killed a number of gang members. And that didn’t bother me much, to be honest with you. That’s okay. A couple of very bad gangs.”

“You know it’s no different than other countries – like Venezuela sent their gangs into us and we took care of those gangs.”
