Trump denies reports he gave Iran 3-5 days to resume negotiations

President Trump says there is no timeframe for ending the current ceasefire with Iran, denying reports that the extended truce will only last three to five days.

President Donald Trump denied late Wednesday night that he is under pressure to reach a deal with Iran, rejecting reports that he has imposed a deadline for the Islamic Republic to return to the negotiating table.

Shortly before the two-week ceasefire with Iran expired on Wednesday, the president announced via his Truth Social account that the truce was extended indefinitely in order to give Tehran’s “fractured” leadership an opportunity to reach a consensus on talks with the US.

“Based on the fact that the government of Iran is seriously fractured, not unexpectedly so and, upon the request of Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, of Pakistan, we have been asked to hold our attack on the country of Iran until such time as their leaders and representatives can come up with a unified proposal,” Trump wrote.

While White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters later that day that the administration is offering Iran a “bit of flexibility,” news reports claimed the president had only given Iran a three-to-five-day window of opportunity to return to nuclear talks in Islamabad, with the US resuming large-scale military operations if Iran failed to respond to America’s proposal for a nuclear deal.

Speaking with Fox News, however, Trump emphasized that there is “no time pressure” for Iran to send a delegation for talks with the US in Islamabad.

“Not true,” Trump responded when asked to confirm whether a “time window” had been laid out for Iran.

The president added that he is “not in a rush” and that he “wants the best deal.”

Trump touted the impact of America’s naval blockade of Iran, claiming that it “scares the Iranians more than the bombing.”

Noting that Iran had accepted his request not to execute eight young women and teenage girls accused of demonstrating against the regime, Trump said the step was a “good sign.”

Iran has denied that the eight were sentenced to death.
