President Trump denies reports that top US general opposes war with Iran, warning that if no deal is reached it will be a “very bad day” for Iran.

President Donald Trump pushed back Monday on reports regarding deliberations inside the administration over possible strikes on Iran, deriding reports by multiple outlets as “fake news.”
On Monday, The Wall Street Journal published an article claiming that the Pentagon has flagged major risks if the US engages in a large-scale military operation against Iran, with General Daniel Caine reportedly voicing opposition to a comprehensive conflict in the Middle East.
Caine, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, is said to have warned that war with Iran, as opposed to limited strikes, would deplete America’s air defense systems, overextend American forces, and leave allied countries in the region exposed to attack.
Later that day, however, Trump pushed back on the report, calling it “100% incorrect.”
“Numerous stories from the Fake News Media have been circulating stating that General Daniel Caine, sometimes referred to as Razin, is against us going to War with Iran,” Trump wrote in a post to his Truth Social account.
“The story does not attribute this vast wealth of knowledge to anyone, and is 100% incorrect. General Caine, like all of us, would like not to see War but, if a decision is made on going against Iran at a Military level, it is his opinion that it will be something easily won.”
The president went on to deny recent reports claiming he is considering limited strikes on Iran in order to pressure Tehran into making concessions in nuclear talks, adding that if no deal is reached, it will be a “very bad day” for Iran.
“He has not spoken of not doing Iran, or even the fake limited strikes that I have been reading about, he only knows one thing, how to WIN and, if he is told to do so, he will be leading the pack.”
“Everything that has been written about a potential War with Iran has been written incorrectly, and purposefully so. I am the one that makes the decision, I would rather have a Deal than not but, if we don’t make a Deal, it will be a very bad day for that Country and, very sadly, its people, because they are great and wonderful, and something like this should never have happened to them.”
The US and Iran are slated to hold their third round of nuclear negotiations Thursday in Geneva, following talks in Geneva last Tuesday.
The White House reportedly offered to hold another summit this week, but only on the condition that Iran first present a comprehensive proposal for a nuclear deal within 48 hours.
