Trump jokes ‘I could always move to Israel and become the next prime minister’

During his speech, Trump recalled the unprecedented actions his administration has taken on behalf of Israel.

President Donald Trump may be considered divisive by some, but at least he has a good sense of humor.

During a private campaign fundraiser on Tuesday, with a room packed with Orthodox Jews, Trump joked that if his presidency fails he could move to Israel and easily become the next prime minister.

“We work hard on Israel, I have to tell you. I think I have your approval rating of about 98 percent,” Trump said. “In fact, if anything happened here, I’m making a trip over to Israel. I’ll be prime minister there very quickly.”

Trump couldn’t resist poking fun at the political instability happening now in Israel.

“What kind of a system is it over there?” he asked.“They are all fighting and fighting. We have different kinds of fights. At least we know who the boss is. They keep having elections and nobody is elected.”

The fundraiser for Trump’s re-election campaign was held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Manhattan and was attended by roughly 400 Orthodox Jews who paid $25,000 per couple for seats. The event was arranged by Orthodox philanthropist Louis Scheiner as a gesture of public gratitude to Trump for all that he has done for Israel.

Before speaking, Trump was blessed by Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Jacobson, one of America’s premier Jewish scholars.

“Blessed are you, our lord, king of the universe, that you have shared of your glory and love and compassion with a human being who maintains the honor of every innocent person and Jew, thank you, amen,” he pronounced.

The crowd cheered “four more years” as the president walked towards the podium.

During his speech, Trump recalled the unprecedented actions his administration has taken on behalf of Israel.

Regarding moving the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, Trump said that he was able to deal with the outside pressure from the Arab world by simply not calling them back.

“Just tell them I’m very busy, I’ll call them back,” he said. “And then I did it, we got it done, it’s done. And then I announced it and then I went into the office, I made about 25 calls… I said, ‘Don’t worry about it, it’s done already, there’s nothing I could do about it.’ It’s much easier. I say, ‘I’m sorry, I wish I could have gotten back to you sooner.’”

Trump also noted his decision to recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, and his bold decision to walk away from the Iranian nuclear deal.
