Trump nominated for Nobel Peace Prize over Iran-Israel ceasefire

Rep. Buddy Carter says president prevented war, calls his actions “historic” in push for 2025 prize.

Rep. Buddy Carter (R-Ga.) who credited U.S. President Donald Trump with brokering a ceasefire between Israel and Iran and halting what could have escalated into a broader regional war, has nominated the commander in chief for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize.

In a formal letter to the Nobel Peace Prize Committee, Carter praised Trump for his “extraordinary and historic role” in helping bring about the end of what Trump referred to as the “12 Day War,” according to Fox News.

Carter said the ceasefire “prevented the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism from obtaining the most lethal weapon on the planet.”

Israel pounded Iran with widespread airstrikes for nearly two weeks, after its well-sourced and embedded intelligence services detected the Islamic Republic ramping up uranium enrichment.

Israel’s attacks were responded to with ballistic missile volleys launched at its civilian homefront, and culminated in U.S. airstrikes over the weekend that targeted three of Iran’s nuclear facilities.

On Monday, Iran launched retaliatory rockets at a U.S. airbase in Qatar, but gave advance notice and caused no injuries.

Trump announced the ceasefire late Monday, with the truce set to take effect Tuesday.

According to Carter, Trump’s efforts to de-escalate tensions and intervene diplomatically played a decisive role in stopping further bloodshed.

“President Trump’s influence was instrumental in forging a swift agreement that many believed to be impossible,” Carter wrote.

“He also took bold, decisive actions to halt Iran’s nuclear ambitions and ensure that the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism remains incapable of acquiring a nuclear weapon.”

Carter added that Trump’s leadership “exemplifies the very ideals that the Nobel Peace Prize seeks to recognize: the pursuit of peace, the prevention of war, and the advancement of international harmony.”

This is not Trump’s first nomination for the prize. Earlier this year, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) also nominated him, citing his unexpected 2024 election victory and what Issa called a “surprising and effective impact” on global peace efforts.

As of now, 338 candidates have been nominated for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, according to the official Nobel website.

Carter, who is running for Senate in Georgia, has introduced several pro-Trump legislative proposals this year, including a symbolic bill to rename Greenland “Red, White, and Blueland” and another to allow Trump to sell off a federal building named for former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Despite the ceasefire, signs of strain have already emerged. On Tuesday morning, Israel accused Iran of violating the truce, a claim Tehran quickly denied. Whether the ceasefire will hold remains uncertain.

Nonetheless, Carter insists Trump’s actions merit global recognition. “President Trump demonstrated both courage and clarity, offering the world a rare glimpse of hope,” he wrote.
