President Donald Trump on Monday warned Iran that any future killing of a U.S. service member would prompt an intensified American military response, following the deaths of three U.S. soldiers in separate incidents linked to Iranian attacks in the Middle East.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the directive had already been delivered to the country’s senior military leadership.
“Every time Iran kills an American Soldier they will pay for that killing many times over! This directive has been passed on to Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Daniel Caine, and every Leader in the Military,” Trump wrote.
He said the United States stands ready to respond immediately to any additional attack carried out by Tehran.
Trump’s remarks came as fighting between the United States and Iran continued to intensify.
Over the weekend, two U.S. soldiers were killed in an Iranian missile and drone attack on a U.S. base in Jordan. A third American service member died in Iraq while handling the remains of an Iranian drone.
The latest fatalities raised the number of U.S. military personnel killed in the conflict with Iran to 17.
Following the deaths, the U.S. military carried out what was described as the ninth wave of strikes against military targets in Iran on Sunday.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said the operation targeted command-and-control facilities, air defense systems, missile and drone launch sites, along with other military infrastructure.
According to CENTCOM, the strikes were intended to reduce Iran’s capacity to continue carrying out attacks against U.S. forces and allied countries in the region.
Trump’s statement linked any future American military action directly to additional casualties among U.S. troops, warning that Iran would face consequences exceeding the scale of any attack on American personnel.
The president’s comments followed the latest U.S. military operation against Iran and came after the deaths of the three American soldiers, bringing the total U.S. death toll in the conflict to 17 as military operations by both sides continued.
