Trump seeks $1 billion from ‘strongly antisemitic’ Harvard University

After federal judge overturns defunding, President Trump announces his administration is seeking $1 billion in damages from “strongly antisemitic” Harvard University.

President Donald Trump announced this week that his administration is seeking $1 billion in damages from Harvard University, while reiterating his past criticisms of the Ivy League institution’s handling of campus antisemitism.

In a post to his Truth Social account late Monday night, Trump took aim at Harvard President Dr. Alan Garber, accusing him of failing to rectify the university’s issues involving antisemitism, while noting that Garber was tapped to lead the school after his predecessor, Claudine Gay, was pressured to resign in part over campus antisemitism and her response to the controversy.

“Strongly Antisemitic Harvard University has been… for a long time, behaving very badly!” Trump wrote.

Last year, Trump froze $2.2 billion in federal funding to Harvard after the school refused to accept administration demands for government oversight in its efforts to confront campus antisemitism.

However, in September, a federal judge overturned the move.

Trump, who has also criticized the school’s affirmative action policies, including its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) program, excoriated The New York Times, following a report claiming that the administration has dropped its demand that Harvard pay the federal government $500 million.

“This should be a Criminal, not Civil, event, and Harvard will have to live with the consequences of their wrongdoings,” Trump continued on Monday, adding that his administration has increased the sum it is seeking to $1 billion.

“In any event, this case will continue until justice is served. Dr. Alan Garber, the President of Harvard, has done a terrible job of rectifying a very bad situation for his institution and, more importantly, America, itself.”

“He was hired AFTER the antisemitism charges were brought – I wonder why??? We are now seeking One Billion Dollars in damages, and want nothing further to do, into the future, with Harvard University.”

Harvard declined to respond to the president’s comments.
