Trump unveils new plan for Gaza following meetings with Muslim countries

Sources described Muslim leaders as generally supportive, while awaiting formal responses from Israel and Hamas.

US President Donald Trump has outlined a proposal for Gaza that combines the return of hostages, and a new administration without Hamas, following meetings with leaders of Muslim countries at the UN.

Diplomatic sources cited by Lebanese media outlet Elnasra said the plan begins with a 20-day truce, after which hostages would be released in stages.

While details remain unclear on how many of the 48 captives would be freed immediately, their return would lead to the next phase: temporary administration of Gaza by a coalition of Muslim countries.

During this period, steps would be taken to establish a Palestinian government not dominated by Hamas.

The meetings took place on the sidelines of the UN session in New York and included leaders from the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, Indonesia, and Pakistan.

The Emirati state news agency WAM reported that participants emphasized both humanitarian aid and the release of hostages as priorities.

Sources described Muslim leaders as generally supportive, while awaiting formal responses from Israel and Hamas.

Trump’s envoy, Steve Witkoff, said Wednesday evening that the US was “hopeful … even confident” that progress could be announced soon, noting that a 21-point roadmap had already been shared with regional leaders.

Separately, Politico reported that Trump assured Arab leaders he would not allow Israel to annex territory in Judea and Samaria, presenting this as part of the wider effort to build regional consensus for his proposal.

The initiative, though still awaiting reactions from the main parties, combines three elements: a temporary halt in fighting, staged hostage releases, and interim Arab oversight in Gaza designed to prevent Hamas from regaining control.
