Trump’s trust in son-in-law Jared Kushner reportedly deteriorating

After the indictment of several members of Trump’s campaign staff, rumors are circulating that the president’s trust in his son-in-law and senior adviser is waning.

While accusations related to US President Donald Trump’s connections to Russia have remained a fixation of major media outlets, the indictment of key campaign staff has reportedly resulted in Trump’s questioning the quality of advice offered by his son-in-law and senior adviser, Jared Kushner. Trump allegedly pointed a finger at Kushner for his role in events that led to indictments of former campaign manager Paul Manafort and political consultant Richard “Rick” Gates, according to a report published last week by Vanity Fair.

Specifically, Trump reportedly took issue with Kushner’s advice regarding the termination of former national security adviser Mike Flynn and former FBI director James Comey, which led to the appointment of special counsel Robert Mueller. Under Mueller’s direction, the Russia investigation produced the indictments of Manafort and Gates.

Trump’s comments regarding Kushner were allegedly made during a call with ousted White House adviser Stephen Bannon.

Vanity Fair also reported that Trump’s confidant, Roger Stone, told the president that “Kushner was giving him bad political advice,” a position with which “Trump agreed, according to someone familiar with the conversation.”

Kushner is married to Trump’s daughter Ivanka and has remained a close adviser to the president. Among other responsibilities, Trump has entrusted Kushner with is a significant role in overseeing US involvement in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
