Tucker Carlson, Qatari PM suggest Israel should rebuild Gaza

Right-wing commentator Tucker Carlson joins summit in Doha, interviews Qatar’s prime minister while calling US aid to Israel and Gaza “grotesque.”

Far-right online influencer Tucker Carlson interviewed Qatar’s prime minister at a Doha conference over the weekend, while offering thinly veiled criticism of Israel and hinting the Jewish state should fund the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.

On Sunday, the controversial 56-year-old podcaster and former Fox News host took the stage at the Doha Forum 2025 alongside Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, who also serves as the oil-rich kingdom’s foreign minister.

During a 22-minute interview focusing heavily on the Israel-Arab conflict, in particular the war in Gaza, Carlson lamented America’s role in funding Israel and aid to the Gaza Strip, while both he and Al Thani intimated that Israel should foot the bill for the rebuilding of Gaza.

“Now there’s the question of who rebuilds Gaza, which has, of course, been completely destroyed, and who pays for it,” said Carlson. “I imagine with total certainty that you will be asked to pay for the rebuilding of Gaza.”

“Why would you do that? Why would you rebuild a region that has been destroyed by a country that also bombed you?”

Ignoring the Hamas invasion of Israel in 2023, Al Thani compared Israel and its war against Hamas to Russia and the ongoing invasion of Ukraine, suggesting that Israel should be forced to compensate Gaza.

“When you look at, like, two conflicts happening at the same time, and you are hearing…about when it comes to the Ukrainian conflict, that Russia should fund all the reconstruction and their assets should be seized to refund all the reconstruction of Ukraine.”

“When you’re talking about Gaza and Israel flattened this land and you say that Israel has a responsibility to rebuild what it destroyed, they will tell you ‘No.'”

“It is really very ironic, the double standards when you look at from our side.”

Al Thani added that while Qatar would provide aid to Gazans to “alleviate their suffering,” his country would not pay for the reconstruction of Gaza.

“We are not the ones who are going to write the check to rebuild what others destroyed.”

Carlson went on to say that “from an American perspective, it is even more grotesque that you are asked to pay for the destruction and for the rebuilding,” alluding to US aid to Israel and Gaza.

“It is a little much.”
