Two people were wounded in a stabbing attack in a predominantly Jewish neighborhood of London on Wednesday morning.

The attack occurred in the Golders Green neighborhood of northern London when a man armed with a knife ran down Golders Green Road, stabbing pedestrians just outside a synagogue.

According to a statement by the Orthodox Jewish neighborhood watch group Shomrim, the assailant targeted members of the local Jewish community.

“One male was seen running along Golders Green Road armed with a knife and attempting to stab Jewish members of the public,” Shomrim said.

The group later added that the suspect was subdued by Shomrim volunteers before being handed over to police officers, who placed the man under arrest after tasing him.

The two victims wounded in the attack were treated at the scene by the Jewish first-responder group Hatzola.

“Shomrim responded immediately and detained the suspect. Police attended and deployed a taser.”

“The male has now been arrested. Two victims have been stabbed and are being treated by Hatzola.”

A report by the BBC said that two Orthodox Jewish men were seriously wounded in the stabbing attack.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer responded to the attack while in Parliament, calling the incident “deeply concerning.”

Britain must be “absolutely clear in our determination to deal with any of these offenses, the likes of which we’ve seen too much recently,” Starmer said.

“The antisemitic attack in Golders Green is utterly appalling,” Starmer later told MPs, while vowing that “those responsible will be brought to justice.”

“Attacks on our Jewish community are attacks on Britain.”

Conservative MP and Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp accused the Starmer government of failing to protect the Jewish community.

“We have seen Iran sponsoring antisemitic attacks and Islamist extremism run rampant.”

“The government must urgently step up tangible actions against antisemitism, Iran and Islamist extremism.”

Later in the day, London police declared the attack a terrorist incident.
