UN fails to condemn Palestinian terror attack

The UNSC failed to find the right words to condemn a Palestinian terror attack on Israeli civilians.

Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations (UN) Danny Danon called on the secretary general to condemn Thursday’s Palestinian terror attack in Petah Tikva, a city near Tel Aviv, in which seven Israeli civilians were wounded in a shooting and stabbing attack.

He also called on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to convene a special session on Palestinian incitement to violence.

“An 18-year-old Palestinian filled with hatred attacked innocent Israelis. This terror attack is a direct result of ongoing incitement from the Palestinian leadership,” charged Danon.

“The international community must take immediate and decisive action against this incitement before it leads to any further bloodshed,” Danon stated.

The UNSC convened to discuss the attack, but failed to agree upon the wording for a resolution condemning the act of terror as well as a missile attack on Eilat earlier in the week.

In discussion among Council members, Bolivia asked to include a line mentioning Security Council Resolution 2334 from December, which condemned Israel’s presence in Judea and Samaria, Israel Radio reported.

Egypt, representing the Arab bloc states in the Council, objected to any mention in the statement of the missiles fired from its territory towards Eilat.

The UNSC ultimately failed to issue a condemnation.
