Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon slammed the UN’s High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad al-Hussein for his demand that the UN boycott Israeli and international companies with ties to Judea, Samaria, eastern Jerusalem and the Golan Heights.
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad al-Hussein called for the UN to boycott Israeli and international companies with ties to Judea, Samaria, eastern Jerusalem and the Golan Heights.
Al-Hussein also called for the UN to sever all ties with Israeli companies operating in these areas.
“The international community will have to decide if they are willing to continue to fund actions which are aimed at boycotting Jewish businesses. Resources allocated to the UN by member-states are intended to build bridges between peoples, not to create lists of Jews and those investing in Israel,” said Danon. “Implementation of this preposterous demand would be an embarrassment for the UN and take the organization down a slippery slope back to dark times in history when these types of ‘blacklists’ were issued,” the ambassador continued.
Danon vowed to use all means at his disposal to prevent implementation of this initiative.
“We will fight this despicable initiative and demand that the international community intervene and block this preposterous proposal whose sole intent is to harm Israel. If implemented, it will be sheer lunacy and serve as a badge of shame for the United Nations,” Danon concluded.
The UNHRC is infamously biased against Israel, with nearly half of its resolutions focused solely on Israel while completely ignoring war, strife and atrocities committed around the globe.
Israeli leaders and officials have cited the UNHRC for its “obsessive hostility” toward Israel and its “one-sided mandate.”
