US carrier approaches region with weekend arrival expected

The buildup comes as Israel and the U.S. work to coordinate amid Washington’s unclear intentions toward Iran.

U.S. military reinforcements continue to flow into the Middle East amid rising tensions with Iran, with a new assessment indicating that the USS Abraham Lincoln and its carrier strike group are expected to arrive in the region on Saturday.

The deployment is part of a broader American buildup now unfolding across the region. Military officials confirmed last week that the 116,000-ton, Nimitz-class, nuclear-powered carrier is en route.

While it remains several days from its destination, it is now expected to reach the Middle East this weekend.

The buildup has also expanded in the air. On Sunday, the United States began deploying at least 12 F-15 fighter jets and four KC-135 Stratotanker aerial refueling aircraft from RAF Lakenheath in the United Kingdom to Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan.

The deployment signals a measured reinforcement of U.S. forces, aimed at strengthening deterrence and boosting operational readiness as tensions continue to rise across the region.

American officials have also signaled that Washington is keeping its options open. U.S. sources told i24NEWS on Sunday that “all options are on the table,” and that additional forces are being surged into the region.

The accelerated military posture comes as Israel and the United States continue to coordinate closely amid uncertainty over Washington’s next steps toward Iran.

Reports in recent days have suggested Israeli officials raised concerns about readiness for a broader confrontation, including air and missile defense demands following intensive use in the June war with Iran, as well as the need for major American assets to be positioned in the region.

Meanwhile, Israel continues to strengthen its own operational capabilities.

On Sunday, three new F-35I “Adir” fighter jets manufactured by Lockheed Martin landed at Nevatim Airbase and will be integrated into the Israeli Air Force’s 116th and 140th Squadrons. The aircraft arrived bearing the insignia of the Israeli Air Force.

With the USS Abraham Lincoln now expected to arrive by Saturday and additional U.S. aircraft already moving into position, the coming days are shaping up as a key window in the evolving regional standoff, as both Washington and Jerusalem weigh their next steps.
