US envoy: Mideast peace deal isn’t done, reports to contrary are fake news

President Donald Trump’s special envoy to the Middle East Jason Greenblatt denied a Fox News report on Sunday that the administration’s Middle East peace plan is finished. The report said that the document was 175 to 200 pages long and only five people had access to it.

“Sorry @FoxNews & @TreyYingst [a Fox News foreign correspondent] your sources gave you bad info. While the plan is close to complete, we aren’t there yet & we’ll continue to refine it until release. 175 pages is also inaccurate. It’s a very detailed political/economic plan but not that long,” Greenblatt tweeted on Monday.

The Fox report quoted a senior administration official who said, “The plan is done… [the president] is happy with the parameters of the deal.”

According to the Fox News report, Trump was briefed a number of times on the specifics of the deal by U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman, senior adviser and Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner, and Greenblatt. The plan would likely not be released before Israel’s elections are held on April 9, the report added.

Over the last couple of years, the Trump administration has denied multiple reports about its Middle East peace plan. In January, Greenblatt dismissed an Israeli television report as inaccurate and unhelpful.

That report claimed the peace proposal would call for dividing Jerusalem, with Israel maintaining sovereignty in west Jerusalem, parts of east Jerusalem and the “holy basin,” including the Old City and its immediate environs. However, it added that the “holy basin” area would be “jointly run” with the Palestinians, Jordan, and possibly other countries.
