Violence escalates in Jerusalem after Friday Muslim prayers

The IDF has deployed hundreds of additional troops to Jerusalem in anticipation of violence.

As riots continue in Judea, Samaria and Gaza over President Donald Trump’s official recognition of Jerusalem as the Israeli capital on Wednesday, signs of impending violent protests in Jerusalem were apparent as Muslim worshipers began burning flags and calling for the destruction of the State of Israel after Friday prayers at the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Hamas called for Palestinians to take to the streets in a “Day of Rage” on Friday and “respond with all means available.”

“Trump’s decision on Jerusalem will not succeed in changing the fact that Jerusalem is Arab Muslim land,” a Hamas spokesman said Wednesday following Trump’s announcement at the White House.

“Tomorrow, December 8, 2017, should be a day of rage and the beginning of a major effort to rise up, which I will name the intifada of Jerusalem and the West Bank’s freedom. As we liberated Gaza, we are able…to free Jerusalem and the West Bank by the way of this popular struggle,” Haniyeh said in a televised speech Thursday.

Hamas terrorists in Judea and Samaria should be “empowered to operate,” he declared.

“Several hundred additional police and border police have been deployed inside and in the vicinity of the Old City,” police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said.
