WATCH: ‘We gave the Iranian protesters weapons,’ says Trump

This marks the first time Trump has publicly confirmed direct U.S. material support for Iran’s domestic opposition movement in the current conflict.

By Bianca Jones, JFeed

President Donald Trump revealed in a Fox News interview today that the United States sent weapons to anti-regime Iranian protesters earlier this year—and that the arms were delivered through Kurdish intermediaries.

Trump stated during the interview:

“We sent a lot of weapons to the Iranian protesters. We transferred them to the Kurdish militias… and I think the Kurds kept them.”

The comment came during the same wide-ranging Fox News appearance in which Trump issued his latest ultimatum to Tehran:

“If Iran doesn’t make a deal quickly, we will bomb them and take their oil,” while confirming temporary immunity for Iranian negotiators.

Full Context of Trump’s Revelation

The weapons transfer was aimed at supporting Iranian protesters seeking to overthrow the Islamic Republic, not the regime itself.

Delivery was routed via Kurdish militias (likely referring to Iraqi Kurdish forces with ties to Iranian Kurdish opposition groups operating near the Iran-Iraq border).

Trump added that he believes the Kurds ultimately kept the weapons rather than passing all of them on to protesters inside Iran.

This marks the first time Trump has publicly confirmed direct U.S. material support for Iran’s domestic opposition movement in the current conflict.

Strategic Significance

The disclosure demonstrates Washington’s willingness to arm anti-regime elements on the ground while conducting airstrikes and special operations (including the historic double rescue of the downed F-15E crew).

Kurdish groups have long been viewed by both U.S. and Israeli officials as potential partners in any effort to destabilize the Tehran regime from within, especially in Iran’s western provinces with significant Kurdish populations.

Earlier reporting (Axios, WSJ, March 2026) noted Trump’s outreach to Kurdish leaders and openness to supporting armed groups inside Iran willing to challenge the regime.

Trump has repeatedly voiced strong support for Iranian protesters, telling them on social media that “the hour of your freedom is at hand” and warning the regime against further crackdowns.
