The 50 state governors in the US declared BDS is “antithetical to our values and the values of our respective states.”
Governors of all 50 US states signed a statement declaring that the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement against Israel (BDS) is against the values of each of their states, according to a Jewish Telegraphic Agency (JTA) report.
“The goals of the BDS movement are antithetical to our values and the values of our respective states, our support for Israel as a vital US ally, important economic partner and champion of freedom,” the letter states.
The JTA report also notes that at least 16 states passed laws restricting ties with the BDS movement and prohibiting state entities from investing in businesses engaging in the BDS agenda.
The American Jewish Committee (AJC) praised each of the 50 governors for signing the letter.
“Our nation’s 50 governors, as well as the District of Columbia mayor, recognize the pernicious goals of the BDS movement, which singles out Israel from among all the nations of the world for relentless and undue criticism, and whose efforts undermine the prospects for advancing Israeli-Palestinian peace,” stated David Harris, CEO of AJC.
Although the letter also expresses support for a two-state solution between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, individual states have recognized and supported Israel’s continued presence in Judea and Samaria.
In March the Agricultural Commissioner of Texas signed a trade agreement with the Israeli communities of Judea and Samaria.
