Greene stabs Trump’s Israel diplomacy in the back with $500 million aid cut push

While President Trump was cementing alliances with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington this week, one of his own party members was working to undermine that relationship by stripping military aid to Israel from the defense budget.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene announced Wednesday during Steve Bannon’s “War Room” show that she will introduce amendments to remove $500 million in proposed military aid to Israel from the National Defense Authorization Act.

“There are some parts of this NDAA that I cannot support, and that’s continued foreign aid and foreign funding, and it needs to come out,” Greene said during the podcast appearance.

“I’m entering amendments to strike 500 million more dollars for nuclear-armed Israel. And it’s important to say nuclear-armed Israel, because they do have nuclear weapons.”

Her opposition extends beyond Israel to other foreign aid programs embedded in the defense spending bill. Greene said she will also target $500 million designated for Jordan, which receives $1.6 billion annually from the State Department.

“This is not a helpless country, and we already give them $3.4 billion every single year in the state — from the State Department. $3.4 billion every single year. They don’t need another $500 million in our defense budget,” Greene said.

Greene’s position isn’t new. She voted against all three Israel aid bills that passed after Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attack, as well as legislation that would have forced arms sales to Israel to proceed during the Biden presidency.

House consideration of the NDAA typically includes dozens of amendments, though leadership usually prevents votes on measures that would significantly alter the bill’s core provisions.

House Speaker Mike Johnson and other Republican leaders have consistently backed military assistance to Israel as a key national security apriority.

In April, House Republicans passed the Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act in April + providing $4 billion to replenish missile defense systems, $1.2 billion for Iron Beam defense systems, and $3.5 billion for weapons procurement.
