Herzog: US, Israel in ‘historic process weakening the empire of evil’

Iran war is a turning point for the Middle East, says Israeli President Isaac Herzog, and a step toward a “better future.”

Israel’s president expressed optimism this week regarding the prospects for regime change in Iran, hailing the joint air campaign by Israel and the United States as being part of a “historic process” that could reshape the Middle East.

On Tuesday, President Isaac Herzog spoke with 7NEWS Australia, denouncing the Islamic Republic as an “empire of evil” while touting the joint military efforts of the US and Israel as offering hope for a dramatic shift in the dynamics of the region.

“For the first time in a generation, an entire coalition of nations, which has been attacked and harassed by Iran all the time, is standing up to Iran and says that’s over, no more,” Herzog said. “The real issue is, you are taking the empire of evil, you are knocking it on its head big time, and hopefully you’re going to change the direction of this region.”

“There is a unique opportunity for peaceful movement in the region toward a better future.”

The Israeli and American airstrikes are “weakening this evil empire,” Herzog continued, musing that the war could lead to the Iranian people taking “their fate in their own hands.”

“I believe the Iranian people want change. I want to see freedom for the Iranian people; they deserve it.”

Herzog ruled out compromise with Iran’s new head of state, Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed during the first round of airstrikes on February 28.

Israel’s president called Mojtaba “a brutal, cruel person who is part and parcel of the enormous bloodshed, of spreading bloodshed, hate, terror all over the world and in his own country.”
