IDF kills 4 ISIS terrorists on Israel’s northern border

The IDF killed four ISIS terrorists in an unprecedented exchange of fire on Israel’s border with Syria.

An IDF unit on patrol in the Golan Heights on the border with Syria was attacked on Sunday by a terror cell affiliated with the Islamic State (ISIS) terror organization.

The terrorists, members of the Shuhada al-Yarmouk group, fired at members of the Golani reconnaissance unit, with mortar fire and a heavy machine gun from across the border.

The soldiers returned fire while calling in air support.

An Israel Air Force (IAF) aircraft was alerted to the scene. It identified the truck the terrorists were driving in and fired at it, killing at least four of the cell members.

No Israelis were harmed in the incident.

This severe incident is unprecedented on Israel’s northern border with Syria, which has been mostly peaceful despite the heavy fighting on the other side of the fence, excluding incidents of fire spilling over from the Syrian civil war.

The IDF estimates that the attack was not planned and that the terror cell decided to attack the IDF unit only after spotting them.

The IDF has prepared for a possible terror attack by ISIS in the Golan, and maintains a high level of alertness on its northern border.

The Syrian terror group Shuhada al-Yarmouk, which operates in the Southern Syrian Golan Heights on Israel’s border, joined forces with ISIS, significantly heightening ISIS’ presence on Israel’s border.
