After US President Donald Trump demanded that the IAF cease its retaliatory operation against Iran, a fighter jet made a “symbolic” strike on a radar in Tehran.
Explosions were heard in the Iranian capital after Trump urged Netanyahu to command the pilots to turn their planes around and abort their mission.
IDF sources told The Jerusalem Post that the military made a symbolic strike to meet the need to retaliate against Iran for twice violating the ceasefire, while at the same time ensuring the strike was minimal to respect Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s orders in compliance with Trump.
Netanyahu acknowledged that the IAF carried out this small strike to answer Iran for its ceasefire violations.
After the ceasefire was intended to begin at 7 a.m., Iranian missiles made several direct hits, including a building in Beersheba in which five people were killed and 20 injured.
Iran then fired additional missiles into northern Israel after 10 a.m., causing residents to run into shelter rooms, although no one was hurt.
Defense Minister Israel Katz declared that the IDF was determined to make Iran answerable for its violations of the agreement, and IAF fighter planes began their mission.
However, Trump expressed harsh words against Israel for responding to Iran’s missile attacks and demanded that the mission be stopped immediately.
“Israel has to calm down; I have to get Israel to calm down,” he said. “I’m gonna see if I can stop it.”
During a blunt conversation with Netanyahu, Trump reportedly told him to “completely cancel the attack.”
In an unprecedented move, Netanyahu ordered the IAF to turn their planes around, but before they complied, they carried out the symbolic strike on a radar in Tehran.
