A branch of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps threatened this week to attack the American homeland and vowed to bring about the elimination of the Zionist enterprise.
On Monday, the IRGC’s Quds Force, a special operations force used by Iran to carry out attacks abroad led by Brig. Gen. Esmail Qaani, issued a statement declaring that it is poised to open “the gates of hell” on the United States and Israel, accusing “the criminal American administration and the Zionist entity” of violating international law by striking the Islamic Republic.
“Today, after the enemy has crossed all the red lines of humanity and international law, the continuation of the fight is a legitimate duty,” the Quds Force said.
As part of its retaliation, the Quds Force told Iranian state television that it would strive toward the “elimination” of Zionism and that Americans will no longer be safe, even at home.
“The enemy must know that the days of calm are over and it will no longer enjoy security anywhere in the world, not even in its own home. We will continue the struggle until the elimination of global arrogance and international Zionism.”
The Quds Force said it would avenge the deaths of senior Iranian officials killed during the initial strikes on Saturday, including Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
“We will take revenge for the oppressed of the world and the great martyrs from the oppressors and the arrogant,” the Quds Force said, castigating attacks on “the leader of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Ali Khamenei, several prominent commanders and the Iranian people, leading to their deaths.”
The statement was issued amid unconfirmed reports that Quds Force commander Esmail Qaani was taken into custody over the weekend n suspicion of collaborating with Israel’s Mossad agency.
