ISIS suicide bomber was former Guantanamo detainee

A British citizen who was incarcerated in Guantanamo and was compensated for his incarceration, joined ISIS and committed a suicide attack.

A British man who recently committed a suicide attack on behalf of the Islamic State (ISIS) against Iraqi forces during the campaign for Mosul was a former Guantanamo Bay detainee, the UK’s Sky News reported Wednesday.

The terrorist, Ronald Fiddler, aka Jamal al Harith and as Abu Zakariya al Britani [the Britian], drove a booby-trapped vehicle into an Iraqi military base south of Mosul, ISIS stated.

He is seen smiling in a video taken before he drove off to blow himself up.

Fiddler and at least three other ISIS terrorists detonated suicide bombs during the attack, killing several Iraqi soldiers and wounding others.

Fiddler, 50 and a father of five, was one of five British citizens released in 2004 after being held at America’s Guantanamo Bay detention center, in Cuba, for more than two years.

Fiddler was reportedly given some £1m compensation by the British government after he was freed.

Fiddler, born to parents who had emigrated from Jamaica and a convert to Islam, had changed his name to Jamal al Harith.

In 2014, he traveled to Syria to enlist in ISIS. His wife, with their five children, joined him for several months in 2015 before fleeing.

According to figures published by the British Government last year, around 850 individuals of “national security concern” have travelled to fight with ISIS in Iraq and Syria.

Of those, just under half have returned to the UK, and approximately 15 percent are dead.
