Israeli security forces were successful in capturing a Palestinian terrorist who murdered IDF St.-Sgt. Ronen Lubarsky last month, the Shin Bet, Israel’s security agency, revealed Wednesday.

The Shin Bet, operating with the IDF, detained Islam Yusuf Hamid, 32, a resident of the Al-Am’ari neighborhood on the outskirts of Ramallah last week.

Shin Bet intelligence indicated that he was suspected of having thrown the marble slab which led to the death of 20-year-old IDF St.-Sgt. Ronen Lubarsky at the end of May.

During his investigation it became clear that Hamid had indeed thrown the slab in question from an adjacent building.

The following is a video of how an elite IDF counter-terrorist unit  and the Shin Bet, the Israeli equivalent of the FBI, located and apprehended the suspect:

Lubarsky, a combat soldier from the elite Duvdevan Commando Unit, was severely injured during operational activity in the Al-Am’ari Camp, west of Ramallah, when a Palestinian dropped a heavy marble slab on him from a rooftop.

The goal of the operation was to apprehend a squad of Palestinian terrorists involved in recent shooting attacks in the area. One suspect was apprehended during the operation.

The soldier died of his wound a day after his injury.

Education Minister Naftali Bennett, himself a former commando officer, tweeted after the incident that Lubarsky’s “death in the alleyways of the Al-Am’ari refugee camp saved the lives of Israelis in the streets of Tel Aviv.”

The Shin Bet noted in its statement Wednesday that Hamid comes from a family of Hamas terrorists, and his brothers have carried out several terrorist attacks leading to the deaths of Israelis, including the February 1994 shooting death of Shin Bet operative Noam Cohen.

“Hamid’s investigation is continuing,” the Shin Bet stated.

The court placed a gag order on all other details.

Responding to news of the arrest, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that after Lubarsky was killed, “during the mourning period. We promised that we would find the terrorist” who killed him.

He praised the IDF and Shin bet for “a very impressive” operation.

“It was a Duvdevan fighter who was killed, and it was the Duvdevan unit that apprehended the terrorist. We will continue to deal with whoever tries to attack, and attacks, Israeli civilians and IDF soldiers, to the fullest extent of the law,” Netanyahu declared.
