Israeli forces bust 15 more Palestinians for Temple Mount violence

Police arrested another 15 suspects in connection with last week’s rioting in Jerusalem.

Israeli forces arrested 15 Palestinians in several Jerusalem neighborhoods late Wednesday night, as Israeli forces continued to crack down on Palestinians who participated in the riots surrounding the Temple Mount.

Earlier in the week, Israeli forces netted 33 Palestinians in Jerusalem for leading and instigating the violent incidents, bringing the number of Palestinians detained this week to 48.

Israeli police spokesperson Luba Samri said that the Palestinians were detained over “violence and disturbing the order in Jerusalem,” which included rock-throwing and blocking roads.

She added that some were also detained for setting fire to trash cans, throwing Molotov cocktails and shooting fireworks at Israeli forces during the clashes.

These violent actions “put the lives of others at risk and caused injuries to a number of police officers,” Samri added.

Meanwhile, Samri said that Israeli authorities had also extended the remands of 31 of the 33 Palestinians arrested during earlier raids.

Charges were officially brought against nine of the detainees, while the prosecution was in the process of filing charges against another 19 of the suspects.

The riots erupted when Israel placed new security measures on the Temple Mount after three terrorists murdered two Israeli policemen at the site.

Israel said the measures, which included metal detectors, were necessary to prevent further attacks, while Palestinians claimed Israel was trying to expand its control over the Temple Mount.

Israel seemingly capitulated to Palestinian violence and removed the security measures.
