Israelis back Trump’s plan to end Gaza war, poll finds

After Netanyahu accepted Trump’s plan to end the war in Gaza, a poll showed strong support among Israelis for the proposal, despite widespread skepticism that it will succeed.

A wide majority of Israelis back President Donald Trump’s plan to end the war in the Gaza Strip and return all 48 of the remaining hostages within days, a new poll found, despite skepticism the plan will succeed.

On Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with President Donald Trump at the White House to discuss the administration’s 21-point plan to end the war in Gaza, return the hostages held by Hamas, and lay the groundwork for broad regional peace deals, including a pathway to Palestinian statehood.

During their meeting, Netanyahu agreed to back the plan, which would replace Israeli control of the Gaza Strip with an international security force.

Israel currently controls some 75% of the Gaza Strip, including half of Gaza City.

Shortly after Netanyahu announced his support for the plan, Israeli President Isaac Herzog issued a statement lauding the American plan, saying it offered “real hope for the release of the hostages, for ensuring the security of Israel, for ending the war, and for changing the reality in the Gaza Strip and the Middle East.”

A snap poll conducted on behalf of i24NEWS Monday night found that fully two-thirds (67%) of Israelis back the Trump plan, compared to just 23% who oppose it, with 10% who had no opinion.

The poll was conducted by the Direct Polls firm, operated by Shlomo Filber, a Netanyahu confidant and former adviser.

The survey was conducted online, polling 520 Israeli adults, including Arabs and Jews.

More than half (58%) of the respondents said Israel must not allow the Palestinian Authority to take part in the post-war administration of the Gaza Strip. Just 32% disagreed with this position, and 10% had no opinion.

An informal poll conducted by the Abu Ali Express Telegram channel, surveying 54,019 followers Monday night, found similar results to the Direct Polls survey, with 71% of respondents backing Trump’s plan.

However, when asked whether they believe the plan is likely to actually be implemented, just 16% said the chances are high, compared to 72% who said they are low.
